Our workshop “Compositionality and the crosslinguistic variation of complement coercion” was a success. We had 8 talks which we decided to distribute over 2 days, leaving much room for discussion during/after each talk as well as in separate discussion sessions. We covered a lot of ground, from theories of the lexicon and syntax to emerging models of (complement) coercion and logical metonimy, from descriptive and comparative grammar to computational linguistics. The event gave with many new ideas, a few starting points for collaborative projects between us, and a clearer sense of the range of theoretical and modeling tools that can be successfully deployed to account for coercion and other linguistic phenomena that are traditionally assumed to challenged compositionality. A huge thanks to VRF for their support.
