The Semitic Copula Summer School was held at Nantes University, France, September 8-12, 2025. The school had two complementary goals: to provide advanced training in the formal syntax of Semitic languages, with a focus on copulas and copular constructions; and to develop collaborative micro-comparative fieldwork on (understudied) Semitic languages. The program included a varied range of courses on the syntax of copular constructions and in Semitic linguistics; along with guided fieldwork sessions dedicated to five languages: Lebanese Arabic, Syrian Arabic, Maltese, Sason and Hebrew. The Summer School concluded with a student workshop, during which participants presented the results of their fieldwork. The school brought together MA’s students, PhD candidates and post-doctoral researchers, creating a dynamic environment for scholarly exchange and collaboration. The support provided by the Van Riemsdjik Foundation allowed us to invite more expert instructors, and importantly to keep the school free of registration fees for students.
