The workshop “Tracing mismatches: Deviations from one-to-one patterns” held at the 48th annual meeting of the German Linguistic Society (DGfS) took place from February 25th to the 27th in Trier. The workshop brought together researchers from different perspectives working on grammatical mismatches at the syntax/semantics and syntax/morphology interfaces. A wide variety of phenomena (e.g. nominal concord, coordination, indexical shift, NPI licensing, and politeness marking) were discussed for a number of languages, including Arabic, Arapaho, Cantonese, Didinga, Croatian, Farsi, German, Georgian, Kasem, Russian, Spanish, and Turkish. The workshop also featured two discussion sessions where attendants identified connections between different talks. This part of the workshop’s format was particularly successful in advancing discussions of how these seemingly disparate research threads can be synthesized and can move theory forward. Thanks to the generous contribution from the Van Riemsdijk Foundation, we were able to invite two early-career researchers and were also able to cover costs for two graduate students, all of whom were women.
