Although it focused on a niche but rapidly growing area of research within formal linguistics, the FLAMM workshop served as a forum for scholars interested in the study of multimodality from a formal perspective, addressing questions pertaining to the domains of formal semantics, syntax, and phonology of (otherwise) spoken languages, viewed through the lens of formal sign language linguistics. FLAMM will continue to foster crucial conversations in the future, for instance concerning the division of labour between formal semanticists and syntacticians, also with respect to the syntax-semantics interface, and in light of the modular structure of the Y-model of grammar.
